I’m Epsilon! I’d prefer to go by this name within the community because, sadly, many of my friends would laugh me off if they knew I used Therianthropy/Otherkin-ness to identify myself. ):Â
I’m primarily an owl therian– I’ve known this for nearly two years now but I never had words or ways to put it in its place until just recently when a friend of mine explained to me about her being a penguin therian. I can’t say I have a definite way of knowing why my owls manifest themselves as specific species– and I might even be guessing wrong– but since I haven’t had a memory trigger, only physical and psychological triggers, I put the two closest ‘feeling’ species in its place. I have a secondary therian/kintype but I haven’t had a strong enough trigger to identify what it might be. Of late, I’ve a sneaking suspicion it’s aquatic– like a fish.Â
I’m here looking for a safe place to express myself, and some of you might’ve seen my introduction on Tumblr (which definitely is not a safe place!).Â
I guiltily admit I’m also looking to expand my open-mindedness because I still find myself dubious in the face of otherkin who are ‘mythical’ such as angels and dragons, as well as fictives. It’s mostly a part of my upbringing? I had a very shamanic family– however, we mostly focused on the spirits of the animals rather than the spirits of the earth, so to speak. My mother is both a dragonkin and a goat therian (quite the combo!) but she has never been able to explain her experience to me very well so I am curious as to other peoples’ experiences. I’m here because I love to learn! Hehe. <:
(I find it ironic the captcha wants us to verify we are ‘human’. )
Hi Epsilon, welcome to the forum. I believe I have seen you over on tumblr, and you’re right – it’s not a safe place by any stretch of the imagination.
Personally, my connection to both mythical kintypes and fictionkin (not fictives, those arose out of the soulbonder community not the otherkin community; long story) is past-lives. I have memories of other lives on other worlds as various non-human beings, some of which could accurately be described as “elves”, “dragons”, etc. I’ve met enough others who remember the same places, people, and events without prompting that I’m fairly confident my memories are accurate. The same for the fictionkin lives I remember. My personal explanation for both is this: in an infinite multiverse, there will be an infinite number of worlds that match any given set of conditions, even those in fiction, as long as the conditions are internally consistent. That said, I do find some fictionkin and some fictives much less credible than others, even as someone who’s fictionkin myself.
