Northern Virginia Otherkin Meetup March 2013

We had a very interesting meet up tonight. Sparsely attended, just three of us regulars, and a research student. Nice guy very respectful, insightful, and asked some really good questions. It was a pleasure having him and I hope he’ll be back next time.  I also hope we get some more people to attend. The core group we have is great, but some new blood is definitely needed.

Northern Virginia Otherkin Meetup Postmortem

Well, tonight was the Northern Virginia Otherkin Meetup again. This was our fourth meetup since the change from Sticks and Stones (a local pagan shop) to local restaurants as the venue for the meetup, and so far it’s been a bit of a mixed bag.

The first meetup was very well attended – we had seven people show up, including myself and my roommate Raven. The second meetup was very poorly attended, with just myself and Raven showing up. The third meetup there were four of us total. And this meetup was just myself and Raven again. I’m a bit disappointed by this. So’s Raven.

I’m still convinced that there is a need for a meetup in this area. When I started it up, I heard from many people that they were glad to hear of something in this area, because there are never otherkin events in Northern Virginia. So far, none of the people who told me this have actually shown up. Which might go some way to explaining *why* there are never otherkin events in Northern Virginia…

But in any case, I’m going to keep going. Even if it’s just me and Raven who show up, we can have a nice dinner out together. And if more people show up, wonderful.

And hey, if there’s something I can do to make it more likely that you will show up, say so – if you need it held on different days or at different hours, if you need it announced further in advance or announced more frequently or announced in different locations, if you need it held at different venues in the area, let me know. I’m happy to work with folks on this.

Right now I’m advertising the event fairly widely, but if you need a method of easily seeing when the next one is going to be there are a few ways you can do this:

First, you can join the announcement list for it: http://groups.google.com/group/otherkin-support-group/

Alternatively, you can subscribe to the following rss feed or ical feeds for the events I am running, online and off:

http://www.localendar.com/public/jarandhel?style=X2

Finally, you can subscribe to this rss feed for every upcoming public otherkin meetup, minimeet, or gather of which I am presently aware, worldwide:

So yeah, that’s the state of the meetup. We’re gonna keep going, and I hope to see more people there, soon.
