I made a relevant blog post about it here: http://technobushi.wordpress.c…..nd-ethics/

I would be interested in hearing others’ opinions and thoughts on this issue.  As well as any personal experiences one might have.  I would like to elaborate on this eventually.

Interesting post and question!

Hmm you’re probably not going to like my answer, since it’s Christian-theological at least as I see it for myself. smile But I believe that any such attempts on my spirit would be futile anyway since I’m God’s child and I believe in Jesus. No one can send my soul anywhere that God doesn’t want it to be. And when he wants it in Heaven, that’s more than fine by me. Till then I’m here and staying here, and could only laugh at someone’s attempts to send me elsewhere. (Probably be a bit indignated though.)

I do agree though that if there are cases where something like that is possible, it’s obviously a severe violation of human (etc) rights. Kind of reminds me of the Mormons’ famous attempts at post-mortem baptism on just about everyone from Holocaust victims to Hitler to Martin Luther and various popes. I’m sure all of these people would be thrilled.

ps: Not that I’m too much into respecting Hitler’s wishes. Bad example. Though it’d kind of be worth it to see “Congratulations, Mr. Hitler, you’re now a mormon. Your Celestial name is Aaron, and you’re in the tribe of Levi.”

Mainly, mine align with yours… I wouldn’t even think about trying to send a spirit to any form of afterlife or reincarnation unless it indicated that’s what it wanted and requested help, or it was posing a threat to others.

I tend to agree with you as well. I've served as a psychopomp on behalf of Hela (the Norse goddess of the underworld) on a few occasions and have collected souls for Her — but only at Her discretion, and in the one case where I had to go to an old and overpopulated (by ghosts) cemetery to collect some folks, the choice was given to them as to whether they wanted to be brought to Her realm or stay where they were. Not all of them chose to leave.

A number of the dead I've worked with have been the forgotten and unknown dead. Many of them are just happy that someone acknowledges their existence and is willing to help them, mourn for them, remember them or otherwise commemorate the fact that yes, once they were alive too. Sometimes that's enough for them to want to leave and go on to wherever it is they need to go.

I'm with you all. Unasked intervention and shipping people off is extremely invasive and can do a great deal of damage. What is so often neglected is that one is dealing with people. The possession or absence of a body doesn't mean anything if one's still lingering around this plane or a related 'mundane' (aka non-afterlife) one. And in a good deal of cases, if someone still has business around, they mean it and it's a serious thing. This patronising tendency of many spirit-workers to take spirits of the dead as cute little ghosts that don't know what is good for them and that can be moved about at will like puppets disturbs me quite a bit. Why should one give up on what's important to oneself and “just move on” and not care anymore, just cause someone feels like playing the benefactor and chalk one up the list? Sometimes there are legit concerns, and something tangible someone is waiting for, and the issue can be fixed, either with proper individual help and advice, or by oneself, or with just a little patience. Reasons to linger shouldn't be dismissed as casually as they so often are.
