It looks pretty new age, but taking a look at the workshops scheduled was interesting.  As far as I can tell, there’s no direct otherkin connection (at least no direct mention of otherkin on their website as far as I see), but Orion Foxwood endorsed it and he’s the guy who made the Faery Cairn at Four Quarters and some folks in the otherkin community are friends with him.

Interesting idea, anyway.

Wait, I don’t get it.  So this Orion Foxwood person did a bit of landscaping at 4QF, and is friends with some people identifying as otherkin, therefore him endorsing it somehow makes it special?

To me it looks like a gathering point for a bunch of white-lighters, newage (like “sewage”) washouts, reality escapists, and racist cultural appropriators.  Otherwise known as a convention of simpletons.  Fantastic.

Not special, no.  Just was mentioning a tangential connection with otherkin.  Turns out there’s actually a more concrete connection, one of the workshops describes its participants as fae who have incarnated as humans.  They’re not using the term otherkin, though, and I’m not sure what system they’re working with… it may be the Doreen Virtue stuff.

To me, it certainly looks like a more newage gathering in both terminology and spirit, but I’m not sure it’s much worse than your average pagan gathering in terms of being a “convention of simpletons”.  Just different systems, and different priorities.  I will say I’m rather impressed with how many different Faerie-themed workshops they managed to come up with.

Er, well, more like having an expert witness; Orion is a reliable and respected teacher in Faery things (specifically his own branch which deals with southern and Appalachian magic, hoodoo, etc). That he was involved in erecting the Fairy Caern at 4QF is sort of tangential (I think Jarin meant something like “in case you don’t know who that is, he did this, which you may be familiar with” by bringing that up).
