I’m actually incredibly surprised at how well things are falling into place today. This morning I recovered a book on magic I thought I lost, and now just as I was pondering sigil magic, I happened to see this.

Thank you for sharing this! I think I might have found my new favorite quote:

“I’m not saying that the mind isn’t involved in magic. Just that the mind is involved in magic the way that the landing gear of a Boeing 747 isinvolved in flight. While, strictly speaking, landing gear isn’t keeping an airbus in the air – it probably is a good idea for the aircraft to have a well functioning set for take-off and landing.”

I’m new to all of this, so just to clarify – the “Spare” everyone keeps mentioning is Austin Osman Spare, right?

Hehe, I find as one pursues magical and spiritual practices synchronicities like that tend to become more common. I take it as a sign that one is on the right track. And I’m very glad the link was useful for you.

Yes, the Spare mentioned is Austin Osman Spare. They’re specifically talking about the sigilization technique that he popularized in his works The Book of Pleasure and The Zoëtic Grimoire of Zos. A beginner’s introduction to that technique can be found over at the Chaos Matrix, written by Fireclown.

@arethinn: You wouldn’t happen to know if that Fireclown is the same individual who used to go by that name in the otherkin community, would you?

I don’t remember a Fireclown off the top of my head, so I don’t know.
