Well, I guess if I’m creating an introductions forum I should probably introduce myself.  Farg.  I hate writing introductions or bios of myself, I never quite know what to say.  You’d think after being around online otherkin communities since May of 1999, I’d be getting better at this by now…

From a magical perspective, I’m rather eclectic.  At one point a few years back I referred to myself as a chaos magician, but that’s not quite right: as many traditions as I borrow from, I’m looking for order amidst the chaos.  A large part of my practice is finding patterns that repeat in esoteric practices across traditions and across cultures.  I look for the perennial philosophies of magic, the ideas that have come again and again in different expressions, different contexts, and different trappings.  The underlying and universal principles.

From an otherkin perspective?  I’m complicated.  Sometimes I call myself “elf, among other things”.  Sometimes I go by satyr.  If you’ve browsed the articles on the main site you’ve probably come across mention of me having some draconic memories.  And there are others, which I may discuss to greater or lesser degrees.  To sum things up as best as I can, I remember a variety of nonhuman past lives that I continue to identify strongly with.

I’m creating these forums in an attempt to find something I feel has been lacking online in both the otherkin and metaphysical communities: deep discussion.  So many sites and forums seem to cover pagan and otherkin 101, and if they have any “advanced” content at all it amounts to little more than a few awkward steps past the bare basics.  I’d like to work on getting past that, on getting somewhere deep and true and real.  I hoping there are others out there who would like to do the same.

Ah…hi. I hate writing introductions just as much, and am really unsure what to put in here so I’ll just go ahead with whatever. On the species question, I’m quite human as far as I’m aware wink– so I’m rather here for some of the magical topics and miscellaneous metaphysical weirdness such as gatework and hosted spirits (being one myself). And because it’s Jarandhel’s forum, really.

And any detailing would take too long, and I’d have no idea how to do that in an introduction, so I’ll just leave that to the sub-forums if they get started. Nice to meet you all!

Wow, how many years has it been since I wrote an introduction for myself in an Otherkin community…

Um. My name is Casteylan, I identify as elf (Aloryan), and I am also part of a multiple collective (which basically means that I share the body with a number of other souls besides myself). Although since Arhuaine passed on I’m pretty much running things on my own here now.

We were part of the Otherkin community online from around 98/99, back in the days when the mailing lists would get literaly hundreds of posts a day. I found myself gradually drifting away partly as Arhuaine began to withdraw and partly because many of the friends we’d made in the early days had left.

But Jarin… you’re one of the best and I’m glad you’re still around, and I will always be proud to call you bro’. *hugs*

Hi, nice to meet you! I’m a member of a multiple system myself, all of us walk-ins in some form. (And I guess, if I get the terminology here right, I’m also part of a midcont-type 2-people subsystem? Something like it. Not so rare to happen where I’m from, but here we have to make do with the vocabulary of the psychological community, it seems.)

We have a few non-humans here, including someone primarily elf-identified with some draconic feel and memories; I just happen to be the one running things at the moment and in a talkative mood, so the human ends up the one talking on the otherkin forum. 😉 No one here has had much to do with the otherkin community at large however; it’s just a few people including Jarin here. Our elf did a lot of reading and listening to the old stories of the community and all but never felt like actually taking part actively.

And, to be fair, a lot of the lists were already in decline by the time you guys left.  I’ve had to spend a lot of time finding the lists and forums that are still active for my link project.  And I haven’t been above cheating in a few cases by posting to them myself to make them “active” again. wink

But Jarin… you’re one of the best and I’m glad you’re still around, and I will always be proud to call you bro’. *hugs*

Thanks Cas. *HUGS*  Welcome back!

And since the forums are now actually active, I guess I can break out the party! emoticon… party!

My introduction.

My name is Tenshi.  Like more than half the people responding to this thread, I am a member of an otherkin-multiple system.  I am a walk-in.  My system and Claude’s system are in (a) committed relationship(s) with one another and we are set to be legally married in Germany in the next year or so (or, as soon as the application for the marriage visa is complete).  I am female-to-male transgendered, and a romantic asexual.

I identify as both angelkin and yokai, and a falcon therianthrope.  Spiritually I am an atheist, in that I practice no religion and honor no deities.  I do believe in the existence of the spiritual and the numinous (you can’t be a walk-in and not believe in some degree of afterlife, I don’t think).

I keep a journal on the occult and my experiences on being otherkin here: http://technobushi.wordpress.com

Haha yes, I’m afraid they do, which is one reason we don’t take part in the multiple community. Way~ too much psychological and clinical jargon and explanations, especially to me. My particular state has no psychological or internal reason at all but was due to a technical/magical? process that was at people’s disposal where we lived, and sometimes there were accidents. It happened, it was known that it happened, and no one would treat it as anything pathological. There must have been some kind of term for what we were but I don’t remember what it could have been.

Most of the terminology we know from the predecessors here hanging around in multiplicity cirlcles more extensively, and you really did specify things to each other like that. “Actually I’m not quite separate, more median – I don’t like the word ‘midcontinuum’ because of its connotations to……..” etc. Daily conversation over coffee. XD

And yeah, it’ll be interesting to see what my species status turns out to be. wink

*blinkblink* I’m still having trouble believing I’m

reading one from you right now, and that I’m not actually still asleep

and dreaming this.  I thought you’d given up on us crazy bastards? wink

Actually the truth is, I miss you. (Meaning the community in general as well as you in particular).  I’ll still be avoiding the Magic section. It still just all goes way over my head.

Who’s there besides yourself these days?  I

know Arhuaine is gone, but I haven’t heard anything from Ash in ages

either.  Was just thinking of her since I rejoined the angelkin

yahoogroup yesterday.  It’s apparently in new hands again since I was

last on there.

Ash left years ago, long before Arhuaine even. Of the ones you would remember, Sally and Louise are still here, so’s Johnny and Morgan, although none of them take front at all. There are a handful of new faces who do though. I think you might know about Russ, he’s another walk-in who’s been here since 2002, and is also an elf though from completely different origins.  We also have a  human walk-in who seems to be from an alternate version of this world, which has been interesting.  He and Russ front quite regularly.

Some of them do though I never really understood what it was all about. Walk-in I understand well enough, seeing as I am one, but this whole mid-continuum stuff still baffles me, and I had no idea they were numbering the types these days. It started off with Astraea’s website I believe, and sort of spread from there.

Thanks Claude, and nice to meet you too. I’m not sure I fully understand the terminology you’re using but based on your post and Tenshi’s I think I get what you mean. I ended up quitting the multiple community not long after I quit the otherkin one.  There’s been a lot of changes here since we first joined the community(ies) – most notably the passing of our original host of the system, Arhuaine, who is no longer with us. I’ve been pretty much running everything myself for a few years now, since even before she passed.

I think Jarin is the only person left from the Otherkin community that I know.

Hi Tenshi, and pleased to meet you.  I relate to the above very strongly – I regard myself as atheist too, although some in our system are/were pagans, I have never had much belief in deities or religion.  (unless you count deities that are real and solid enough to whack you upside the head when you’re being stupid – Jarin will know who I mean here *g*). I do believe in an afterlife, and I do believe that there is much more to this world, spiritually speaking, than is immediately apparent to the five physical senses.

I also relate to the FtM part too – as a system we’re also FtM transgendered and hoping to begin transition soon. Being male and stuck in a female body was something I found really difficult when I first arrived here (13 years ago) and over the years it’s got worse rather than better. Although it’s apparently not just me – there’s been signs going back into early childhood.

To be honest there isn’t a lot of terminology we understand, either.  We’ve looked on the sidelines of the multiple/otherkin community, but never openly participated.  We’ve found it generally not to be worth the bullshit in the past.  And personally, I feel that a lot of the terminology is just contrived to make things sound more special or more complicated than they really need to be.  But other times there really are no other words for certain experiences, I suppose.  Whatever.

Oh yes, I think that was it. It became the go-to page for a while, and I think a few others, and people used that terminology a lot. I guess it makes sense in that one likes to have some word for one’s experience, and if there’s shared vocabulary and you don’t always need to write or speak in long descriptive paragraphs, it can make things a lot easier. I still find it badly fitting my own situation though…

What I mean about my own situation is that I sort of share a soul or something specifically with one person from my homeplace, in that we’re partly one and partly separate. It wasn’t any psychological proccess though, nor did anyone split, but rather the opposite happened and we were combined from formerly two separate people in separate bodies in a technical process that I can’t quite explain because it goes over my own head too, as it did at the time. *laugh* There were others like us cause these things happened in the circumstances of the times, and I’m pretty sure we had terms for it there, but I can’t for the life of me remember what, or what it would translate to or mean specifically.

So the midcontinuum/median terminology is useful to have some term to use quickly in conversation without sidetracking the whole sentence and conversation topic, but there’s really no psychological reason or implication, and we don’t need careful P.C. treatment, thank you. wink

Oh, that’s not true at all.  Heck, I’m not even the only person on this board you know.  If you take a gander over in the otherkin Resources section, you’ll see some comments by Arethinn.  You may know her better by another name, and I’ll give you a hint: she runs eristic.net

Of course they are.  Still causing trouble as usual.  We keep a journal at ‘Perakh’ on LJ currently, though it’s sporadically updated. Solo keeps a private journal at ‘Primaldog’, and I’m still ‘Technobushi’.  Internet hasn’t been our number one priority lately, so we update there sporadically at best.

Perhaps we can set up a mirror account of our group journal there, at the very least.  Most of the people we know are on LJ, and we can’t be bothered to log in/out of multiple accounts.  But we would like to keep in touch.

Hi, I’m Elizabeth. I’m an elf (Aloryan, by way of Ljossalfheim — long story). Some of you already know me. I don’t mind having my real name or photo bandied about because I’m pretty much “out” about most aspects of my life (sometimes publicly so) but I do understand and respect other people’s desire for privacy.

I did the whole Awakening thing relatively late in life (mid-30s…I’m 39 now). It was a relief to finally understand some things about myself that I’d always taken for granted but which seemed to make me strange to others. Not that I think I’m some kind of special snowflake. It took me a couple of years to get used to the idea, but now it’s just something that’s a part of my everyday existence.

My only contact with the Otherkin community has been through attending Walking the Thresholds a couple of years ago, where I met Jarandhel, Tenshi, Solo and a couple of other folks in person who might or might not be on this forum now. What I’ve managed to pick up from the online community has mostly made me want to run far, far away — present company excepted 🙂

My roommates affectionately refer to me as the “house elf” and make jokes about my clothes being tea towels. Not sure what else to write, so I’ll leave off now.

I would very much like to hear more of that story.  I know you had mentioned some linguistic stuff, and we’ve been aware of some apparent connections between Alorya and the Norse, but this is news to me.

I just find it useful not to have to answer questions about elves at my job. wink  Hence why I now have a facebook account with my otherkin name.

It’s not all as bad as it seems sometimes.  Just a matter of making the right connections, really. 🙂

Hi, I’m Elizabeth. I’m an elf (Aloryan, by way of Ljossalfheim — long story). …

Welcome, and pleased to meet you. As a fellow Aloryan I’d love to hear about your experiences, and the Ljossalfheim connection. (curiously enough you’re not the first to make that connection; someone described Arhuiane as Ljossalfar many years before we found the Otherkin community online).

Unfortunately I wasn’t at that particular Walking the Thresholds event but I did manage to make it to the one in 2000. It seems like such a long time ago now.

My name is Tenshi.  Like more than half the people responding to this thread, I am a member of an otherkin-multiple system.

An interestingly loaded way of phrasing it, old son. 😉
