I’ve known for a while now that certain patterns seem to have a tendency to repeat across lives.  Not just the oft-discussed “unlearned lessons” type of patterns, either.

What I didn’t know until today is that somehow memory triggers can be connected to these patterns.  A memory of an event in one life might trigger a cascade of seemingly unrelated memories from another life that are, in fact, connected by the underlying pattern that is expressed by these events in both lives.

This makes me wish I had kept better records of what memories from different lives were triggered at the same time.  It might be very informative to review them and see what the underlying patterns are.  It’s definitely something I am going to try to keep an eye on, going forward.

It would be interesting to see if the patterns may be in part due to having the same personality (or at least similar psychology) between lives that leads you into the same situations.

They don’t count as past lives, but some people in our system have found parallels of themselves in another world – they’re not quite the same, like their bases were similar but they all developed differently. It’s kind of a lot to explain here, so I’ll leave what they are at that. But, three found that their counterparts had experienced similar things as they had, and there were even parallels to their life experiences that had yet to come (that is, they saw the others experience events first, then found themselves caught up in similar circumstances outside of their control). Could just be cosmic happenstance, or they might have been identifying with the others’ experiences or focused on specific elements in them so they seemed more similar than they really are, but nonetheless it’s interesting.

The kinds of patterns I’m referring to really wouldn’t stem from that.  That’d be more what I termed “unlearned lessons”, and they are definitely a thing, but this encompasses patterns that are entirely outside of the individual’s control.  Things on the level of society or species, even (or the intersection of the two.)

One potential explanation is that one chooses one’s incarnations, but personally I have no memory of doing so and I am troubled by the implications that belief has.  It seems in many cases to absolve criminals and blame victims; for instance it would suggest that a child who was abused chose to incarnate into that family and experience that.  This is not speculative, this is actually stated outright by proponents of that belief.  For instance:

From http://therealastrology.com/as…..sh-aspects:

Your mother chose her chart; she chose her parents, and she chose to be in a relationship with her father. Her father also had free will, and the opportunity to learn and grow through his relationship with his daughter, your mother. Your mother chose her father knowing full well that there was the potential for sexual abuse. She chose to incarnate to assist her father in overcoming his own challenges and issues with abuse. She agreed to enter into this relationship understanding that if she did experience abuse, she would then have her own lessons and challenges to learn from and overcome.
