With as much argument as there often is over what the term otherkin means, there’s an equal amount of argument over what term to use. Â Some of the terms I’m aware of that have been used to hold meanings equivalent to otherkin are:
- Faeid
- Inhumans
- Sayuneldi
- Faeborn (and Astral Entities)
- Fairth
- Metahuman
- Changeling
- Invisus
- Immortals
Some of these (notably Metahumans and Immortals) I really wish I was kidding about.
Â
There are also arguably a number of other communities that house the same concept in different words:
- Starseeds/Star People/Starborn/Wanderers
- Earth (or Earthbound) Angels/Elementals
- Draconic/DraconityÂ
These are the main ones that I am aware of at this time.
Does anyone know of any more? Â It’s a lot easier to search for things when you know what you’re searching for.
Otherwise, out there in the dark, you might be eaten [by a grue]. Â
Ancient of Days
“Otherkind”, of course, but that’s possibly close enough to “otherkin” as to not need mentioning.
Â
I wouldn’t much mind “metahuman” except that it has comic-book or RPG associations. I suppose it literally means “on a level above humans” which isn’t good either, although colloquially I’d take it to mean “human plus something else”, which isn’t an unfair description of otherkin in general.

Yeah, I consider them two different forms of the same word. Â Like Faery and Fairy. Â But good to list too. 🙂
Â
And yeah, I have the same problem with Metahuman. Â I can’t get past its use in the DC universe. Â I also have a problem with Changeling for similar reasons (the game by the same name) even though its basis is in older lore.
Â
I feel like there are other terms in use that I’ve heard, but I’m having trouble thinking of any more….

Oh those make me cringe, badly. I’ve seen the “Immortals” one around, too, I think it was on a page you showed me even. Yeah. (My other half notes that those who call themselves that are in for a surprise at some point. And that it’s said that humans are the only species aware of their own mortality and so it might be fitting again.)
And…metahumans? For serious?

Yeah, there are several really bad sites that use that term. Â

Actually, I’ve seen that one mentioned in the Otherkin FAQ, but I’ve never heard anyone seriously use it “in the wild”, so to speak. Â Anyone have an experience with this one actually being used?
