So, I know a lot of credible otherkin who claim the ability to access “the astral”.  I know a smaller group of credible otherkin who claim to access “the otherworld”, which one usually depending on what traditions they work with.  I know an even smaller group of credible otherkin who claim the ability to spirit-walk to specific worlds they used to live on (Alorya, Yyl'Nector, Krenar, etc).

But to the best of my knowledge, I've never run across an otherkin of any stripe… angel, demon, celestial, etc…. who claims at-will access to heaven, hell, limbo, or purgatory.  Or, generally, their equivalents in other traditions.  No at-will access to the Elysian Fields or Hades, no at-will access to Valhalla or Fólkvangr or Hel, etc.

So, have I just not met the right folks?  I would find that somewhat surprising considering that I used to be one of the moderators of angelkin, but I suppose it's possible.  Or does this pattern hold true, even for kintypes traditionally associated with those places?  And if so, any thoughts on why?

Huh… you know, I’m not sure. I have vague recollections of angelics talking about Heaven, but nothing specific is leaping to mind and I think they were mostly in memory-mode, not access-now mode. (Maybe one of the problems of angel-kin is “generally, can’t get back there right now”?) Demons and Hell… hum. Again, I feel like I want to say “oh yeah, I’ve heard some people talking about it somewhere” but I can’t come up with any examples. Granted I don’t talk to a lot of demons.

Maybe the beings that rule these realms are powerful enough that mere us-es can’t breach the borders without invitation, and no invitations are forthcoming? Perhaps it’s evidence of specific exile (rather than mistake, willing travel, or being sent)? I really don’t know. Interesting question.

*nods* Every discussion of it that I've seen has been angelkin remembering what heaven was like.  Which may provide evidence for the “fallen” theory.

Demons and Hell… hum. Again, I feel like I want to say “oh yeah, I've heard some people talking about it somewhere” but I can't come up with any examples. Granted I don't talk to a lot of demons.

I've talked with more than a few, but none have ever been judeo-christian demons that I can recall.  Most of the ones I've run into have come from other worlds, and consider themselves “demon” due to their appearance resembling depictions of demons in art and myth.  Though some I'd argue more closely resemble Disney's Gargoyles from the descriptions I've heard.  I haven't heard of any demon-kin actually claiming hell as their residence.

Maybe the beings that rule these realms are powerful enough that mere us-es can't breach the borders without invitation, and no invitations are forthcoming?

*nods* I'd assume so, though that it is odd that even the beings native to these realms frequently can't access them.

Perhaps it's evidence of specific exile (rather than mistake, willing travel, or being sent)? I really don't know. Interesting question.

*nods* That's definitely one explanation for it.  Though I supposed it could still be “being sent”, if they're not allowed back because they're not done here yet.  *shrugs* I don't know either.

I’m posting about this on otherkin on LiveJournal and Dreamwidth. I’ll be interested to see what people say on the matter.
