Good day! I’m Malchior, and I’m a reaper- and winged lion- otherkin. If that sounds familiar to you at all, it is likely you have seen or heard from me in my earlier days when I first joined the otherkin community. I have to admit, I like many others was a foolish newbie and I fell in way over my head and stressed myself out so much I left.
But I couldn’t stay away. I like the community. Sure, it can be stressful, but I have learned that rather than face stressful situations with a headstrong, stubborn attitude, I should look at them logically and remind myself to turn away if they grow into things I can’t handle. I suppose, technically, I’m a ‘newbie’ in the sense that I haven’t actively participated in much of anything at all, but I don’t think I really qualify, as I’ve been dipping my paws in and out of the community for a few years now.
I decided that this time around, I would set a goal in mind and follow it. I’m completely, despairingly lacking in knowledge of any sort of magic, and I really, really would love to learn. That is part of the reason I came here, as opposed to elsewhere. I also love design, so it would be fun to apply that to being ‘kin somehow, but that isn’t my main focus.
You see, I love books. Books and papers. I love to read, and I love to write, and I love to engage myself with knowledge. Back when I had only just stumbled over the community, I searched frantically for knowledge, and most of it was from very angry people on the internet. Recently I decided to rekindle my search for knowledge, but in a simpler way. I’m currently collecting writings on being otherkin/therian/nonhuman, etc, as well as books, and it’s very fun! I’m building my own little library! That isn’t too interesting to people who aren’t me, I’m sure, but I love building collections of information and knowledge. I have built myself ‘libraries’ about cats, about drawing comic books, about dragons and mythical creatures, and of actual comic books themselves. Books on those things are, for the most part, easy to find, though, so I thought it would be fun to collect otherkin-related books and writings. If I end up liking how it goes, I may extend that into a library of otherkin books and books about magic, once I learn more about it.
Anyways, oops. Not much about me has been said yet! I have a bad habit of rambling. I’m a graphic design student in my sophomore year of college, and I aspire to be something of a jack of all trades, between art, design, and writing. My dream job is to make comics/graphic novels or design video games/video game characters for a living, or become a fantasy film’s art director, or design costume clothing… I like making things and designing things and writing about things a lot! I also make ‘music’ sometimes, but it isn’t good at all and is mostly me mashing keys on my electronic keyboard until something vaguely stable gets churned out.
Hm, what else… oh, I’m a transgender guy, and I’m gayer than a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide. A thousand brownie points to anyone who gets that reference. My favorite work of fiction is the video game ‘The World Ends With You’ which, as I read more and more about magic, seems to borrow a lot from various magic systems despite being a fairly well known video game. That’s neither here nor there I suppose, though, and I haven’t learned enough to properly judge yet. But oh, am I learning!
It’s a pleasure to meet you all, and I hope we may become friends.
