I’ve had this page open for like… two or three days now. -__-

I’m not sure how active we’ll be on here. I’m not really a forum-goer, but maybe somebody else will do more than lurk…

Uh, we came over from OKS, so anyone from there might recognize us under “Night Light”.

Short story, I’m part of a plural system. We don’t use “otherkin” to describe ourselves, so ‘kin forums aren’t really our scene. Feel free to ask about that. The simple answer is that we *are* our own species and do have our own bodies, but they just aren’t apparent here. The body is just like a computer we use to interface with this world; it doesn’t really matter what species it is, we’re still our own.

There isn’t really much to say. We sign at the end of our posts so people know who’s talking. We do that for a reason – lots of different people here who aren’t very much similar, calling us all by the profile name makes about as much sense as calling somebody by their college or high school’s name. Just use the name in the signature and we’ll all make nice.

Any questions or comments are welcome. *waves to the forum*

Hmm I hope we can edit, seems there isn’t a preview… Erm, I’ll probably be experimenting with coloured text later if that’s allowed.

Oh, and we’re keeping an eye out for information on the Corruption for some personal/research-related reasons, if anybody wants to point a direction.

And now, my promised longer reply! wink

I do recognize you under that name! bouncy Hi, it’s good to see you here!

So, what’s generally termed a “gateway system”.  I’m one myself, but my headmate Alaereth (who does have his own body on a different world – he terms his interaction with this one “spiritwalking”) does consider himself otherkin.  He certainly has more in common with other members of the otherkin community than with mundane humans.  Even having found others who remember his homeworld.  Though admittedly, a lot of that is from a time period in the community when it was more common for otherkin to believe they are such for spiritual reasons and to openly discuss memories of other lives on other worlds.

That’s pretty common for multiple systems.  I don’t think anyone will have a problem with that.  Ally and I do that when we’re on instant messenger; on this board if he ever decides to chime in he’ll use his own account.  If not, it’s me.

We can edit, yes.  I’ve looked into the possibility of adding a preview, but that’s a feature I’d have to pay for with this forum plugin and since editing is allowed I haven’t bothered.  It’s pretty much WYSIWYG anyway.

Like I said over on Otherkinsight, your best bet for that is probably the Vorjenhunting mailing list I run, or the private Elenari list.  Neither are particularly active these days, but I can’t think of any better sources of information on the topic.

Yep, that’s it. :-) There are actually “sub”systems in here, if you can call them that… Kind of complicated. :-p I’d explain but I’ve got some sort of headache right now… Basically different systemmates connected to different people and it’s a mess eventually.

I guess “otherkin” is personal choice. ^^ To be honest we’d probably have a lot in common with the community, but the only ones we’ve really seen are OKS – and the developments there kind of discouraged us from talking about “spiritual” things, which are more or less fact to us…

I didn’t know you were part of a system. :-)

We’re familiar with other systems using it (our other forum is Plurality Resource…), but we’ve had issues with people on other sites just ignoring us and using the profile name. As it is, there are too many people here for multiple accounts, and we tend to change main fronters every few months.

I saw it. :-) Makes sense to me, no need to add something if it’s unnecessary (and costs money).

Like I said over on Otherkinsight, your best bet for that is probably the Vorjenhunting mailing list I run, or the private Elenari list.  Neither are particularly active these days, but I can’t think of any better sources of information on the topic.

We got it, thank you. :-) I know there was a thread on OKC about it, but it got shushed by some older members who’ve seen it all before and didn’t want people to make another fuss.

Anyway, thank you for the welcome. :-) Sorry this isn’t more coherent – late nights and headaches don’t mix very well.

I feel like I’ve heard a term for that before, but I can’t remember it and can’t find it by searching right now.  Basically, members of your system who are themselves multiple?

What happened there, anyway?  I missed whatever the big kerfuffle was, and the relevant posts were deleted by that misconfigured archival tool before I got to see them.

I’m fairly open about it, but a lot of the time it doesn’t come up.  It’s just me and Alaereth, who I’ve been hosting since December 5, 1999.  He’s had some bad experiences with people in the community, years back, and at this point he’s rather reluctant to get involved again.  There have also been times where my connection with him – whatever it is that allows him to project himself here through me – has been much less clear.  I’m still not 100% sure what causes that, though I’ve been trying to test various theories and see if there is a way to boost the signal during such times, so to speak.

Even in the otherkin community, not everyone is familiar with the concept of multiplicity or how it works in practice.  Especially new-comers to the community, which are more prevalent on some sites like OKS than on others.

Which really just makes it impossible for newer people to find out anything on the subject.  Or older people to learn more, because contrary to popular opinion I doubt anyone has “seen it all” on that topic.  Even myself, and I’ve run two different mailing lists on that subject in my time in the community. (I made the mistake of deleting the original when activity on it dropped off and it didn’t seem like people were going to be using it anymore.  This was before “archive everything, twice” became my motto when dealing with data.

It was perfectly coherent, don’t worry!  I hope you feel better!

I feel like I’ve heard a term for that before, but I can’t remember it and can’t find it by searching right now.  Basically, members of your system who are themselves multiple?

That’s right. I think some people assume median-within-multiple which is why we’re weird about using “subsystem,” and it’s not always like… nesting dolls, so much as a rubik’s cube.

It’s mainly with Ferris. There’s a “main” system here, which is gateway. There are members within the system connected to other worlds (which aren’t necessarily considered part of the system, because for the most part the people connected to them don’t switch with anyone there), and Ferris comes from one of them. He’s in another system within that world – one that partially mirrors the “main” one here (just in that some systemmates could already cross over, and some had alternate world doubles… long story), and the people in either can cross over between the two systems, and front on either side. By himself, Ferris shares a separate in-world with one of his brothers (he and a few others were already born into the same body in their world, but because of another long story he later ended up sharing a separate in-world with one of his brothers), and another with the people from my world. Switching with him is odd. When it’s just with him and his brother, they’ll switch places in the “main” system (or whichever system they’re present in), but if he’s switching with somebody from my world we’ll both be pulled into a separate black space and stay like that until he’s back in front.

Hopefully that made enough sense. :\ I don’t think it’s usually that complicated, but we haven’t spoken to many other systems with subsystems…

What happened there, anyway?  I missed whatever the big kerfuffle was, and the relevant posts were deleted by that misconfigured archival tool before I got to see them.

You saw some of the titles? “Beliefs in the Face of Scientific Thought” and things like that…? It turned into this whole thing where some of the more “scientifically-minded” and “spiritually-minded” people kept hashing out the same debate over and over again (mainly about burden of proof between everything-is-subjective and science-is-the-only-truth), with both sides refusing to back down or just agree to disagree. Numerous warnings, many threads derailed, multiple locked topics, and finally somebody was banned. The forum wasn’t like that until those recent threads though. It all went downhill very fast.

Hm. :| Well, I know Plurality Resource is a safe forum with plenty of information and some very helpful people, if either of you are ever interested in going there. Sorry he had such bad experiences…

I’d try giving you advice for communication, but right now my thoughts are about the consistency of tapioca pudding and I’m not well-versed to begin with… Heard lots of different methods on the other forum though. :\ Contacting him through lucid dreaming or meditation or finding new ways to switch…

Even in the otherkin community, not everyone is familiar with the concept of multiplicity or how it works in practice.  Especially new-comers to the community, which are more prevalent on some sites like OKS than on others.

We know. :( It got to be kind of ridiculous though – we’re fine with correcting new comers, but people who should have already been familiar with it (and our system) kept ignoring us – they really didn’t have an excuse at that point. We’ve only really had trouble on OKS though – even a vamp forum some members were active on a while back used our signatures. OKC was about fifty-fifty.

Which really just makes it impossible for newer people to find out anything on the subject.  Or older people to learn more, because contrary to popular opinion I doubt anyone has “seen it all” on that topic.  Even myself, and I’ve run two different mailing lists on that subject in my time in the community. Amen to that. :\ At some point we’re probably going to go back to that thread and PM some of the people who posted on it, or start a new one specifically asking for information. Hopefully it’ll be less reasonable to close a thread where somebody is actually asking for information on the topic, not starting a discussion.

That’s one of the better mottos I’ve seen. XD

It was perfectly coherent, don’t worry!  I hope you feel better!

:) Thank you~ It’s probably just the body getting upset that I switched with Ferris. Silly thing doesn’t like unfamiliar people very much and sometimes it throws a fit. :-p

It’s more complicated than my brain can successfully parse at 2am, but I’ve run into multiple systems who literally have entire worlds in their heads so I’ll try again when I’m more awake and I’ll probably get it then.  wink

Ugh.  Sounds extremely unpleasant.  I can imagine most of it, from what I’ve seen on other communities lately.

Appreciated, but it wasn’t a matter of people not getting multiplicity or anything like that.  He made a post about it two years ago, during a period where we’d briefly reestablished strong contact, here that talks about his reasons for not being involved much anymore.

Not sure if those methods would help us or not.  Dreams, even lucid ones, seem like a long shot.  I dream about my friends rather regularly, I don’t think that it means I’m in telepathic contact with them.  I don’t see why it would be different in his case.  Meditation would help establish a receptive state, but that’s about it.  What do you mean by new ways to switch?

If it’s any consolation, I have to remind people who have known me for years–in some cases more than a decade–that I am both a member of a multiple system and fictionkin, as well as my other kintypes.  The latter especially.  I swear sometimes I have a mutant power wherein people magically forget that about me.

Unfortunately, it’s a motto born of experience having lost most of the archives of the original mailing list and a few other important things that really should have been archived over the course of the past decade and a half.

If you’d like, also feel free to start a thread here about the Corruption.  Some forum members other than myself have knowledge of it, even if they’re not super-active at the moment.

@Lin – hello! Sorry, I missed you the first time…

It’s more complicated than my brain can successfully parse at 2am, but I’ve run into multiple systems who literally have entire worlds in their heads so I’ll try again when I’m more awake and I’ll probably get it then.  wink

Heh, I’m not the best at explaining as it is. ^^ It’s not so much they have worlds in their heads, that they’re connected to them there…

Appreciated, but it wasn’t a matter of people not getting multiplicity or anything like that.  He made a post about it two years ago, during a period where we’d briefly reestablished strong contact, here that talks about his reasons for not being involved much anymore.

Good enough reasons as any. :\ We haven’t noticed anyone doing that, but then we haven’t been around more than our little nook.

*Shrug* Dreaming is just dreaming for us, and meditation hasn’t helped us much. Still, it works for some people.

New ways to switch as in new techniques to make switching easier. Some people have things like meditation, or triggers (what brings certain people to the front, like specific songs or tastes, etc.), or visualizations. Same could be said for renewing or strengthening your connection – people have different ways to go about it.

If it’s any consolation, I have to remind people who have known me for years–in some cases more than a decade–that I am both a member of a multiple system and fictionkin, as well as my other kintypes.  The latter especially.  I swear sometimes I have a mutant power wherein people magically forget that about me.

Funny, I think we have the same “power” offline…

If you’d like, also feel free to start a thread here about the Corruption.  Some forum members other than myself have knowledge of it, even if they’re not super-active at the moment.

We probably will at some point.

Guh. I think something about the computer screen is making my thoughts shut down. Anyway, thank you for the welcome.

So, remember when I said:

Turns out, there were other plugins (and a mobile theme) that were worth the money to get and I could get them all as a bundle by paying the one $40 fee.  So we have preview now.  And some other things…

Didn’t dive into deep detail of what has been posted but it an interesting concept. I am at work making changes to the mock-ups so it a bit too much to toss my complete mind into. What I have seen it actually pretty interesting.
