I don't know for sure, but honestly my best guess is that people (possibly in the otherkin community, possibly in one of the related nonhuman communities like the vampire community or the therian community) originally borrowed the term from the RPG Mage: The Ascension by White Wolf. Â If Changeling had come out earlier, maybe we'd be using the term Chrysalis for the same experience instead, though frankly I find Awakening more apt. Â It seems to have spread to all three communities at this point. Â That's just my personal theory, though, and I really don't have evidence to back it up. Â If anyone else knows who actually coined the term and under what circumstances, I'd be very interested too. Â Might have to poke Orion Sandstorm and see if he's found any info on it during his research for the Otherkin Timeline. Â I know he did finally find the person who coined the term otherkin.
