Scheduled IRC Chat (Thursday @ 7pm-whenever I crash & head for bed) + Kin Directory Preview | Site Updates | Forums

So, since the channel has been dead so far (though my logs do show TheDoctor popping by to visit the channel when it was on Dalnet and I was at work), I've decided to try getting some folks together there at a scheduled time.  My first attempt at this is going to be tomorrow, from 7pm on.  Me and the Bot will be in #dreamhart, and I hope to see some other folks there too.   Please feel free to spread the word to others you think may enjoy chatting with us, even if they're not active here on Dreamhart.org.

Second, I'm pleased to announce that I'm making some headway with a system for implementing an otherkin directory here on the site.  You may have already noticed some new fields popping up in your profiles.  While these aren't the final versions, and I'm looking at creating some tighter integration with existing profile fields (so I don't have to duplicate the website and email address fields, for instance), you can get a rough idea of what the new directory will be like here: http://dreamhart.org/links/kindir/

If you want to see how you'll show up in the directory, just go to your profile (there's a link on the dashboard bar at the top of the page, on the right hand side) and edit the information in the directory section.  I've gone to a lot of trouble to make absolutely certain that anyone marked as "Do Not Display" will not… under any circumstances… show up in a directory listing.  No, not even if you search for them by name or start entering random numbers as user-ids in the individual profile view.  

At the moment, the main thing keeping this from being a production version is a bug with the plug-in used: it's not automatically adding a new entry when a new user is created, the way it's supposed to.  I'm checking with the WordPress Support forums & I'm going to try to contact the plugin author directly, as well as pouring over the code myself.  So far, I've narrowed it down to four possible files (and individual functions within those files) where the bug could be.  I'm working on figuring out how to narrow it further, so I can get an idea of what specifically is causing it and how to fix it.  I'm fairly sure it's a permissions issue, as when I create a new user as administrator a new entry is automatically created, but when I register a new user as if I was a visitor to the site one is not.  So far, though, I haven't found anything that should cause that type of permissions issue.  Still looking into it.
